The mainland extends from the Waccamaw River to the south and Murrells Inlet to the north. This area known as Pawleys/Litchfield features many residential developments with ancient live oak trees draped in Spanish moss. Pawleys Island is far removed from the commotion of the city.

Located within Georgetown County on the Atlantic Coast, Pawleys Island is 70 miles north of Charleston and 25 miles south of Myrtle Beach. Residents and visitors typically enjoy activities that involve the beautiful natural surroundings. These include crabbing, fishing, golfing, canoeing, biking and collecting seashells along miles of white sand beaches. Golf is particularly important to the Pawleys Island lifestyle; there are at least nine courses on the mainland, with dozens more located in the surrounding neighborhoods.
